Republicans are promising an onslaught of investigations into the Biden administration. Democrats are wondering if they have the right people to counter them.

aiming to make that era look quaint by comparison, Democrats are deciding who will lead their counterattack—and there’s an open contest for the party’s top slot on the House’s most powerful investigative body.—Reps. Gerry Connolly , Stephen Lynch , and Jamie Raskin —are vying for the job of ranking member, replacing the retiring chair, Rep. Carolyn Maloney .

According to a number of Democratic insiders on Capitol Hill, the frontrunners are Connolly and Raskin. In interviews, both lawmakers envisioned aggressive pushback to what both expect to be a GOP investigative apparatus fully unleashed. If they are similar in substance, the two diverge in style. Connolly, an old-school Capitol Hill pugilist, eagerly embraces the brand. “He’s got a great, combative personality,” said his ally, Rep. Don Beyer .

Democrats, then, may be choosing what kind of fighter they want. But it’s clear the party wants fighters—period—taking on the new Republican majority. “We’re the last line of defense, so we have to have people who are really on top of how we respond best,” said Rep. Pramila Jayapal , chair of the Progressive Caucus, who is supporting Raskin for the Oversight post. “It’s incredibly important for us to be able to lay out the case to the American people over the next two years—what the contrast is.”

But according to a source present during a closed-door pitch Lynch made to members, he didn’t detail many aspirations. The Massachusetts Democrat said repeatedly he was “running to protect my prerogative,” the source recalled. Jordan, who will be Judiciary chairman but currently serves on Oversight, laughed that “I’ve worked against all of them” when asked about the three candidates. “I’m not that concerned about who they put up,” he told The Daily Beast. “I know we’re going to get our work done, regardless of who their ranking member is.”

And America is wondering if we will move forward as a country and getti f anything done

Most Republicans are not in office to help We The People. They are in office to help grow their bank accounts.

Seems like it will be pretty easy to just ignore them.

Hope so they look really nervous. That typically means guilty.

Why they scrambling - GQPClownShow keeps laying it out there for them to pick up on.

Difference is; Dems choose to investigate made up BS, while GOP has grounds to investigate, since the Justice Dept. won't, or slow rolls their investigations.

Nothing false about their claims, but nice try. POTUS thinks there are 54 states and you still lick his ass.

All innocent.

Talk about a disgusting waste of Tax Payer money for the next 2 years. I hope voters hold these Congressman responsible.

Keep it up republiguns. Show America you are not able to do the people's work

It’s always the “Dems in Disarray” isn’t it? You are absolute clowns.

Corruption is as common as politicans.

Kyrsten Sinema’s political curveball frustrates Biden, DemocratsLiberal activists got exactly what they wished for following Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s recent announcement she is ditching the Democratic Party to fly her independent flag. CORRECTION: Nonsense. Sinema’s change to independent doesn’t change anything for Dems or Biden — Dems still have Senate control, Dems still have Senate subpoena power, Dems still get majority on all Senate committees, and Dems still can advance their agenda as before. Try again. The fact that Susan Collins, total RINO is with her is off-putting. The glasses The lipstick That dye job Of course this was going to happen. (Actually her positions aren't bad, but what fun is that ?)

Opinion | Sinema's an independent because both Democrats and Republicans don't like herMax Burns: Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s desperate leap out of the Democratic Party will someday make a compelling story for her book. It’s also likely to end her political career. - NBCNewsTHINK THINK Or she’s making sure she can’t be primaried by the extremes of either party… THINK Her resignation from the Democratic Party is a cynical bet that she will be more electable as an Independent. Her hoping people don’t see and remember this stark betrayal is ridiculous. THINK This was a power move for her but it’s probably the end of her political career. She will just be a spoiler and a republican will take her seat.
