Democrats managed to strike a compromise on drug prices to advance their sweeping social spending bill. But as the House prepares to send the package to the Senate, the way the plan would extend price controls beyond Medicare to private health coverage is stoking another battle over the package.drugmakers if they hike prices of medicine faster than inflation,
to lobby key centrist Democrats who could be swing votes, including Sens. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Tom Carper and Chris Coons of Delaware. Democrats have no clear backup plan if the price controls for private insurance are struck down, according to a senior Senate Democratic aide.
The Democrats' attempts at price controls have to conform with the parameters of the expedited budget reconciliation process they're hoping to use to pass the social spending package on a party-line vote.
Remember politico is no longer considered unbiased and neutral in their content but now have shifted more toward RIGHT WING propaganda. That’s What Axel Springer brought to the company when in purchased politico in 2021.
It’s really outrageous the prices we pay for medications! This really hurts, our retired, veterans and low income families! Then those pharmaceutical companies don’t get to pay taxes! Like everyone else!😡
The 'Egregious Act' is burdening the public by not negotiating Drug prices, the rest of the world pays Pharma 300%,less for the same drug. The greed if lawmakers that accept Lobbyists donations , when families have to file for bankruptcy, insulin denied diabetics die needlessly
Democrats have been trying to get lower drug prices 4 years. Republicans do you not want to help in doing that
Overreach during a Republican administration but exactly what's needed during an administration for the majority of Americans. Republicans are showing America what they stand for and their voters don't matter.
Given that members of congress are deeply invested in big pharmaceutical I am not surprised
When Republicans say, 'government over reach', it means it would endanger the money flow from the lobbyists for the pharmaceutical companies.
Government overreach is bad, but corporate greed is even worse, especially when it comes to health care
What about corporate over reach by big Pharma greed?
I thought inflation was good? At least that is what the talking heads say and President Sleepy and the Absentee VP.
The .GOP wanted to kill the Rebate Rule also that would have hike premiums on American seniors, at too steep a cost to taxpayers, increase profits for Big Pharma and do little to lower prescription drug prices.
When you have nothing else, blame government overreach !
Translation; “How dare Democrats use Congress to push legislation to the benefit of the American people and not big pharma.”
Republicans and Donald Trump proposed reduced drug prices but never did anything. Republicans are only against reduced drug prices now because Democrats may actually do something about it. The Trump party takes no actions and just criticizes. They are the party of no, no action.
There is no intellectually honest way to look at government intervention on rising consumer drug prices as overreach AND insist the president do something about inflation.
Republicans want to backtrack the middling progress democrats accidentally made. Fixed your headline for you
The Republicans, the do nothing unless it enriches the top 1% and to hell with everyone else. I am so sick of their selfish destructive stances.
Once again, an example of some in Congress working for big Pharma & Corporations, instead of the American people’s best interest, which is their job to do...
Then again Republicans are not concerned about government overreach in policing, civil & voting rights, women's bodies, union rights or private enterprise. The only thing that makes this all work is the circus act the Democrats put on pretending they are an opposition party.
It is essential that Medicare be able to negotiate drug prices. Seniors are being gauged. GOP give us a real reason. Afraid your campaign funds will be cut off?
who is working for big Pharma?
When Republicans say 'government overreaach' they generally mean 'helps average Americans too much instead of the rich.'
What about hindering? That's one of the main problems.
