Democrats are struggling with a huge problem that could sink them at the ballot box: They may end up looking more sympathetic to rich people than Republicans.
“You can’t be a political party that talks about demanding the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes and then end up with a bill that gives large tax breaks to many millionaires,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders . “You can’t do that. The hypocrisy is too strong. It’s bad policy, it’s bad politics.” Nonetheless, the episode exposes Democrats to damaging attacks. One of the largest components of their bill to expand the social safety net is merely a tax cut for the wealthy — a potent political charge next year in key House and Senate battlegrounds where Republicans already have an advantage.
“The fact that more people and orgs on the Democratic side aren’t up in arms about this is wild,” he wrote. House Democrats say they are discussing the proposal with their Senate counterparts but many are not keen on Sanders’ idea. They don’t expect the current language to change before the bill leaves the House later this week. That means House Democrats running for the Senate, such as Reps. Val Demings of Florida, Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania and Tim Ryan of Ohio, may vote for a politically toxic tax proposal that could change altogether in the Senate.

2.23% tax rate in my TX neighborhood, meaning that many (unless special exemptions) pay near/over $10K/yr in property taxes. I bet none of us would say we are 'wealthy'.

No one listens when we try to correct this. The SALT cap was a partisan move which raises taxes on the middle class in blue states, to punish our states and to finance Trump’s 2017 tax break for corporations.
The major difference between Democrats & Republicans: Republicans vote together as one block, regardless of the issue, Democrats can’t agree on anything & it shows. If this continues we can about forget 2022 & 2024. Eliminate the filibuster, pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
The Dems also dropped a social security number requirement to get the child tax credit. This will now allow illegals to get that credit. Their own stupidity gets in their own way.

Not everyone in NY, NJ, CT, MA. IL, MI, VA, MD, CA, FL, OR, WA and TX is “rich”. Compromise? Keep $10k deduction on adjusted gross income $400k; allow deduction of $40k, instead of proposed $72.5k and current $10k, on first $400k of adjusted gross income.
