LOS ANGELES/WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke said on Thursday he was resuming his campaign with a new sense of focus after a mass shooting in his Texas hometown, while rival John Hickenlooper ended his bid to take on President Donald Trump.

“There have even been some who have said that I should stay in Texas and run for the Senate,” O’Rourke said in El Paso on Thursday. “But that would not be good enough for El Paso and that would not be good enough for this country.” Democratic strategist James Manley, previously a spokesman for former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said he hoped Hickenlooper’s departure from the White House scrum would “break the dam to show what is possible” to the other candidates.

“For those that are thinking about dropping off and moving into another race, it’s much better to do it now than early next year, right up against the filing deadline,” Manley added.

I don't really care what Beto wants. I'm looking for a candidate who wants what I want and that candidate is not Beto.

High profile mass shootings in one’s hometown opens a lot of doors for self serving opportunists, especially if their daddy-in-law is a billionaire.

After the El Paso attack, you can hear the sadness, anger & compassion in his voice.

hicken who dropped out?

This has got to be the most annoying man ever!

'Look at me ! Look at me ! how perfect I am !!!

I wish he’d run for the Senate instead!

Is O'Rourke the right slacks dems are looking for?

Hurray!

Beto would make bigger impact as senator from Texas.

Who?

Beto could defeat Trump--especially if he could convince Jeb Bush to be his running mate.

Hickenlooper Plans to End Democratic Presidential CampaignFormer Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper plans to drop out of the 2020 presidential race on Thursday, according to a person familiar with his plans. Of course, that was the entire purpose of his Presidential run, TWO fundraising opportunities for a single race. Unspent Presidential campaign funds can be dumped into his Senate campaign fund and all his previous donors can donate AGAIN. We've got 15 or so more democratic candidates I'd like to see do the same in their state as Senators This isn't necessarily bad for republicans. Any democrat was winning the Colorado senate seat in 2020. Hickenlooper running pretty much guarantees that it won't be someone from the Bernie-wing that gets it.
