The first set of questions about health care had Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders quick to defend a Medicare for All system from attacks from more centrist candidates

Voters wait for the debate to begin in Detroit on Tuesday. While we wait for the show to begin, here are a few things we’ll be looking for tonight. The two most prominent progressives, Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, will be on stage tonight. They’ll be surrounded by more moderate candidates who are looking for a breakout moment.

Some candidates—such as Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and former Maryland Rep. John Delaney—have already been using those jabs on the campaign trail. These candidates could try to make the case that their more limited approach to topics such as health care and debt relief will be easier to achieve and could appeal to voters outside the Democratic Party in a general election.

But both candidates are still polling in single-digits and will need to move past candidates like Mr. Sanders and Ms. Warren if they are to have a better shot at being the nominee.Former Vice President Joe Biden will not be on stage Tuesday night, but the Democratic frontrunner could come up during the action.
