LOS ANGELES — The highly public rift between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a clutch of freshmen congresswomen led by Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez has spilled into the 2020 Democratic presidential contest. The intramural conflict is threatening to overshadow President Donald Trump's history of race-baiting.

In the first Democratic presidential debate last month, California Sen. Kamala Harris skewered Biden's record on race, and his support in public polls has declined since. Harris described Ocasio-Cortez as"bold and smart as anything" but declined to criticize Pelosi in a Friday interview with The Breakfast Club, a New York-based radio show.

"I'm not going to pick sides in a House caucus tussle," he said."What I will say is that the diversity of opinions in the party right now is pretty healthy. And one of the best ways that we hash out what we believe as a party is through something like a Democratic primary nominating process for the presidency."

But Democrats are talking more about themselves than about Trump. And the conversation is not an easy one. They want the grassroots energy that Ocasio-Cortez can provide along with the institutional heft that Pelosi routinely delivers.

2020 Dem says giving everyone $1K a month will save the countryThe latest polling shows that only seven 2020 candidates are on track to make the debate stage in September. That includes people you might expect like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but is also includes tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang. The presidential candidate sits down for his very first interview on The Beat to break down his signature “Freedom Dividend” plan, eliminating the penny and why he loves holograms so much. He's great! I think he deserves a shot amongst the top contenders. He brings substance and REAL plans for REAL WORKING CLASS PEOPLE. this is all a two-edged sword - it's great the Dems have so many competent and decent people to run against Don the Con but it's hard to squeeze out a lot when so many at one time are defining who they are and what they believe Good. It's about time. I only want to hear from the candidates who truly have a shot at being Potus.
