On narrowbody and regional jet aircraft, passengers will not be able to book select seats. When passengers try to select seats during booking or check-in, they will see much of the cabin is unavailable or not assignable. Passengers who need to be seated next to a travel companion are encouraged to speak to a gate agent at the airport for new seats.

If traveling alone, this is ideal. Nobody wants to sit in between two strangers. I’ve been next to people who are sick, and people who have puked. I don’t mind sitting next to babies because they’re cute and I don’t care if they’re fussy. But adults ? No.
What if you’re flying as a family? I often travel with my 7 and 5 yr old and wouldn’t want to sit apart from them.
