The British government has announced that it will move ahead with granting Huawei a limited role in building the country's future 5G networks, despite pressure from Washington to drop the company on security concerns

LONDON - Prime Minister Boris Johnson granted Huawei a limited role in Britain’s 5G mobile network on Tuesday, frustrating a global attempt by the United States to exclude the Chinese telecoms giant from the West’s next-generation communications.

Such an explicit rejection of U.S. concerns that Huawei could be used to steal Western secrets was welcomed by the Chinese firm, founded in 1987 by a former People’s Liberation Army engineer, but dismayed the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. “We look forward to working with the UK on a way forward that results in the exclusion of untrusted vendor components from 5G networks.”

5G’s much faster data speeds and increased capacity will make it the foundation stone of many industries and a driver of economic growth. In what some have compared to the Cold War antagonism with the Soviet Union, the United States is worried that 5G dominance is a milestone towards Chinese technological supremacy that could define the geopolitics of the 21st century.

Canada, which has yet to decide whether to allow the use of Huawei 5G technology, said it was studying Britain’s decision. The United States had repeatedly warned London against allowing Huawei into 5G, arguing the distinction between “edge” and “core” will blur as data is processed throughout 5G networks, making it difficult to contain any security risks.

Massive mistake, China has a long record in stealing intellectual properties, personal data and speech censorship. It will be very dangerous to risk internet security to Huawei. UK will suffer the consequences.

Non-Sensitive parts? Hilariously Stupid Any part becomes an open door for Huawei and the Chinese Govt to steal sensitive data. BorisJohnson aka tommyboy must be on the Chinese payroll.

What an opportunity to leap frog & start giving our people & techies cutting edge technology to develop a whole new service industry based on it. Huawei should look at the growth continent of the future Africa. We can do it together JenfanMuswere Min_ICTCS_ZW compsocietyzim

UK has made this decision on his own, considering his best allie's suggestion, partially. If UK fully accepts allie's words, I would doubt whether UK can make his own decision in the future.

Signed a contract with the devil.

Congratulations, you know have the 5G Wuhan Coronavirus.
