WASHINGTON—President Trump said Wednesday that John Rood, who as the Pentagon’s undersecretary of defense for policy was one of the top officials in the department, is leaving his post.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper removed Mr. Rood at the request of the White House, according to people familiar with the matter. Mr. Rood also submitted a resignation letter, according to these people.
