Using immune clock models and a new analysis pipeline, scientists in ScienceTM find individuals with DownSyndrome may be more vulnerable to autoimmune disorders due to accelerated aging of their immune systems. Inflammaging

Individuals with Down syndrome have a dysregulated immune system, which is associated with increased risk of autoimmunity and poorer immune responses to infections and vaccines. Here, Lambert. used deep immune phenotyping to better understand the specific features that are associated with this dysregulation.

Here, we performed deep immunophenotyping of a cohort of individuals with Down syndrome across the life span, selecting for autoimmunity-free individuals. We simultaneously interrogated age- and sex-matched healthy controls and people with type 1 diabetes as a representative autoimmune disease. We built an analytical software, IMPACD , that enabled us to rapidly identify many features of immune dysregulation in Down syndrome shared with other autoimmune diseases.
