The U.S. had 4.43 deaths due to gun violence per 100,000 people in 2017. That's nine times as high as the rate in Canada and 29 times as high as in Denmark.

I agree that we need to have better restrictions and regulations; however, please tell the whole story. According to a UN agency, the US has one of the lowest violent crime stats in the world. Who is 1 Australia. Go figure

Followed your links and while you show whose database you used, you don't show HOW you queried the DB. By chance, did you once again include suicides by guns in with these numbers? They represent roughly 2/3 of the 'death by guns' numbers you usually proclaim...so I'm curious...

Ok. What's your point? Keep showing numbers like some metaphor. How many countries have a higher rate. What are the laws where these are. This is not about death rate. You know it. Stop steering. Say what you want. You can't have the guns You dont need them. Enforce the law.

It's colder in Denmark.

Is the comparison of GunViolence a fair one? Access to guns in America make it a logical choice for committing violent crimes. Wouldn't a better comparison be violent crimes rates? I would think it's a more accurate gauge of public safety & focuses on an act not an instrument.

Sad!

Change is needed

We must make mental health care more accessible

MarkESutter Guns don't kill people... Americans with guns kill people.

The population of Denmark is approximately 5 million. Big ratio differentials.

The population of US is approx 324 million. Canada’s was 36 million.

Not arguing numbers, but comparison. Denmark to USA is like.. Europe vs Colorado.

The US is not Canada and is not Denmark

I'd be interested in knowing how 'gun violence' was defined. Of course, the term 'gun violence' has as much meaning as 'car violence' in drunk driving incidents.

So..

Take a look at these incidents one by one. You’d be surprised and likely have a different approach on reducing deaths. You say, “hand guns and gang violence needs to be addressed in the US.” Not, “AR-15s and mass shootings are the largest issue.” And I’m actually against AR15s

I am just wondering why there is any surprise there. Look at our arsenine gun laws. Restrictions on who can own a gun is not taking your rights away. Why does anyone in their right mind need to own a semi automatic gun if they aren't in the military. Owning a hunting rifle is ok.

How many were suicide?

I know I will get a lot of pushback for this. But it’s not about gin control. People have had guns for as long as I can remember. Society has changed. There are much deeper issues to address

But the caravan

Statistics are not compared evenly to other countries. NPR tells the truth with 3 of every 5 facts. The rest is left out.

And compared to the moon; infinity

This is what we are up against. A senator whose first reaction to being asked what we do about the California Bar shootings is to say 'We have to make sure we protect the second amendment....'

Yeah ok. Canada has a few Birch bark canoes and it took Germany 5 minutes to roll through Denmark so whats your point oh holier than thow npr

Your graph showing South Africa rate by gun deaths at 4.56 conflicts with most other sources, which show the homicide rate 35.8 murders per 100,000 people, of which 31.8 were by firearms.

And we have way more people than both countries combined....and way more guns.

Any data on whom is committing these crimes and where they live? (He asked knowingly)

Also shows that while it happens, it's still rather low. Those other countries are not as free as we. 4.43 per 100, 000 is very small. Maybe 1,000 per 100, 000 is a bit bigger. People should stop complaining. Death and murder are normal.

We're number one! We're number one!

C_Parker_Sacto Do that math and you will realize what is means for places like CityofElkGrove with slightly over 170,000 residents, of course the 4.43 is spread across the country, but do communities want this rate in their backyard?

What is the statistic for homicide per capital in countries with right 2 carry - VS - no carry significance

Have suicides and Chicago gangland illegal weapons deaths been excluded from the total? What deaths are actually counted? Are Canadians committing suicide w prescription drugs?

That was just in gun free zones of Chicago.

Dah smaller population!

It’s easy to buy a gun in Canada.

I love how liberals completely ignore Chicago when talking about gun fatalities/reform.

Why include “self harm”....that is nothing more than personal choice to “abort” themselves, unlike when people kill their children out of convenience as a “choice” without consulting the child first?

0.00004% per 100,000. Yes let's get alarmed. DLoesch

Here’s some research not driven by disingenuous, agenda driven cherrypicking:

Well, that's the price of freedumb.

But you fail to mention Sweden who almost every home has a gun with few deaths related. How many of those were suicides or accidental. And how many deaths per 100,000 are from texting while driving etc It's a mental health issue.

So

90% in large cities completely controlled by democrats

Trump: US is no more aggressive vs other countries, just better shots. Jew-analyst (locked in bowels of WH): Confounded analysis; US much easier access to guns, w/greater lethality - US=4.4 deaths/100,000 due to guns in 2017; 9X Canadian, 29X Danish rates

but muh government is so corrupt

Crazy gun people don’t care

Weird, since most of us Canadians don’t have guns.

hereandnow I'm 05'US GunViolence Survivor&Shooter was felon&Got Probation?& UNM Didn't Give Antibiotics=Infected=Almost got gangrene\\Died&Didn't Take Out Shrapnel=Now I've Paralysis&05-06'VA did Malpractice PDVets\\Me=I Did Suicide Attempts from\\OD=Almost Died again from CARE

This does not mean there is no death due to gun violence in any other country. What is your point? BTW it was not a smart comparation, though staffers all well educated.

And what have we learned from this? Keep killing for the sake of the 2nd amendment..

But muh guns

My pitch for new NRA slogan: Guns don’t kill people, overworked ER doctors trauma surgeons who need to shut up and patch up gunshot wounds do. What do you think? ThisISOurLane GunControlNow NeverAgain

A necessary evil when a government, like China’s, executes over 5,000 of its citizens a year.

Make American Gun Free one city at a time.

Gangs are a real problem

Gun violence? How many unarmed citizens were murdered by government in modern times? Answer: The number of unarmed citizens (262,000,000) slaughtered by tyrannical (mostly leftist, Marxist, fascist) governments during the 20th century would come pretty close to wiping out the US

Why not go even bigger? 44 per million!

The gun lovers don't care as long as they and their loved ones are not part of the next 4,400 shot dead. They couldn't care if it was 400,000. Doubt it? Ask them.

ThisIsAmerica

WE NEED MORE GUNS 2A NRA

Meanwhile, in the real world, the US isn't even in the top 10 in gun related deaths. And that includes countries with total gun bans.

America's stupid gun laws are the number one threat to the safety and security of the American People. RepealThe2nd NRAIsATerroristOrganization

The answer just seems so clear

'Democrats ousted at least 15 House Republicans with “A” National Rifle Association ratings, while the candidates elected to replace them all scored an “F” NRA rating.'

Its still not even on the top ten things that kill most americans😂😂 Start banning food....

We don’t care about stats or how many of us have died we don’t even care if our children and babies are mass murdered in our schools it don’t matter. We gots to have our guns yo! It’s not really the guns that kill us it’s our inability to do without them!🤦🏾‍♂️

All charts in the story exclude deaths in armed conflict and from accidents or self-harm.

Isnt this a greater threat to US citizens than terrorism is? I mean we cant go to a yoga studio without fear of being shot, so common sense gun laws anyone?

NRA guess what’s coming? Common Sense Gun Control, high insurance rates for non compliance, no more Gun obsession and no interest in the Russian/NRA PAC funding-there is no lane available for your gun sales agenda.

That's because we're insane. It's part of our 'culture' now, not just the guns but the violence as well. We glorify cops and soldiers as being 'heros' instead of a necessary evil. There's no fixing this. Try to pass laws but the terrorist org called the NRA will stop you.

Now do Mexico.

And what? Ban all of the guns. Go ahead, see what happens. You think people are going to freely turn in the 100 million+ guns in untraceable circulation around the US right now. Every time you push gun control more guns are bought. You are a boon for the gun industry.

The graph itself is really cringing, since its comparing the US with the lowest gun rates... it would make a stronger point if the US was compared to the top 5 gun violence deaths per 100,000 ppl

Now update to show the race off the offenders.

Let's get that last 2% I know we can do it.

Racist NPR always trying to say it's the whitest countries that are best at everything.

I noticed left-wing sites like this won't use countries like Mexico or Brazil in their comparisons.

How does the U.S. compare with the countries with the highest rate of gun violence?

Humiliating. The US has truly become a spectacular embarrassment of the world.

Maybe ppl will start to learn that thoughts and prayers don’t actually stop bullets.

This is skewed by suicides (66% of all gun deaths in US), which those countries commit by other means.

So.

Cars & heart disease kill more. Ban forks. Ban Fords.

Thank the NRA, which protects the rights of toothless morons to own more guns than one needs.

The populations are much smaller in those countrys

A) why not include ALL violent deaths? Does the method really matter? B) most of this crime is localized in ‘inner city’ areas. If you avoid those areas, the rates would be similar.

How about countries in Africa or S. America? MSNBC CNN

And almost ten times lower than our rate. And ifl you, a civilian, carry a gun in Brazil you go straight to jail.

Now compare demographics.

Almost like there's an agenda you are pushing.. US against 'the lowest' makes a great graph

WalshFreedom

so dumb show the stats for the rest of the world

But you can’t stop evil, am I right?

Honestly this may be more helpful if you do violent death rate from all weapons....many believe that stabbings and such replace US gun use in terms of overall death rate

How many of those by suicide?

If it’s not a gun problem, then it’s a mental health problem. Which means we are 9x crazy as other western nations. That actually tracks.
