History repeats in the form of Superman’s origin.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Warning! Spoilers ahead for Kneel Before Zod #4!As if Superman's iconic origin wasn't tragic enough, a new development has put an even more harrowing twist on Clark Kent's backstory. With one of the Man of Steel's enemies facing his most trying period ever, he's forced to do something that makes rocketing baby Kal-El to Earth look downright positive in comparison.

In Kneel Before Zod #4 by Joe Casey and Dan McDaid, General Zod is mourning his wife Ursa, who was slain during their recent battle with the Khunds. Zod says a few words for Ursa before igniting a funeral pyre to honor her. Afterward, Zod studies the bottle city of Kandor and after determining that the Khunds' attack hadn't harmed it, Zod prepares a spaceship. He has Kandor placed inside and sends the Kryptonian city into deep space, promising that he will find Kandor again one day and resume his work of restoring Kryptonian society. The bottle city of Kandor has always been one of the most tragic parts of the Superman mythos.

Unfortunately, bringing Kandor back just isn’t in the cards. While Zod loves the Kryptonian people, the only thing he has in his heart right now is revenge on those who caused Ursa’s death. It's sad to see Zod have no other choice but to send Kandor and its people away, largely because it mirrors Superman's origin. Baby Kal-El was rocketed to Earth by desperate parents who wanted their child to not miss out on a chance at life.

The DC Universe's Last Batch of Kryptonians Are Doomed Zod doesn't seem to have much of a plan other than to send the city into deep space while he seeks revenge. While it's not out of the question the city could be found, few people have the tech to enlarge Kandor. The only person who could fix what happened to Kandor is Brainiac, and if he finds the city, then Kandor's population has much more to worry about.
