The Reagan High School graduate, whose given name is Dawson Rice, didn’t make the cut in the first round of voting, which winnowed the field from 26 to 20 finalists.Wayne’s fate was revealed in the in final moments of the three-hour live show Sunday night on ABC. It aired from the talent competition’s new home, in the same studio where the much-adored sitcoms “I Love Lucy” and “Golden Girls” were filmed.
Wayne posted a selfie from the set during the show, writing, “Did I make the #Top20?” He ended the post, “Look at all of my beautiful friends in the background.”“It’s been a dream come true, honestly,” he said. “Obviously, that’s something I looked at and watched as a kid and getting to be there was so awesome, but just the environment is so positive. I’ve made so many lifelong friends. It was very special, for sure.
