Screen Rant had the honor of interviewing producer davidcfein about the director's edition of StarTrek: The Motion Picture, which is now in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray:

Thanks to producer David C. Fein, Star Trek: The Motion Picture has been fully restored to look and sound more spectacular than ever. Fein oversaw the remaster of the original 1979 Star Trek movie, which enjoyed a recent theatrical run and is now available in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray as Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition.

David Fein Talks Star Trek Screen Rant: I got a chance to see the film at the Paramount lot back in April. And the picture quality, the visual effects, the sound -- it's a whole new experience. But I loved that the story was also vastly improved. Can you talk about how you addressed the movie's story, specifically Captain Kirk, who is now a more complete character?

It's the same thing as getting angry at McCoy [DeForest Kelley] in sickbay, and later on with Spock [Leonard Nimoy]. That's not necessarily who Kirk is. And that was part of having to nurture his character, and bring him more in line with who is Captain Kirk. And what I love is instead of anger, which is not what he was, his insecurities were showing up as anger.

The 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray have a lot of great archival materials, deleted scenes, new footage. At Star Trek Day, you mentioned that there was a cameo by Gene Roddenberry's son in the film?
