SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Dark Matter star Joel Edgerton and showrunner Blake Crouch have addressed the possibility of the series getting renewed for season 2, explaining what the possibilities for a continuation could be. Dark Matter season 1 ended with Jason taking Daniela and Charlie through the Box into another world, escaping the many other versions of himself that also came back.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Crouch and Edgerton opened up about the possibility of Dark Matter season 2, and what potential there might be for future stories. In one interview, the showrunner explained how the focus of season 1 was on adapting his book of the same name, leaving little room for a potential continuation. However, in a separate interview, the series' star indicated that, with the right story, the show could keep going.
Blake Crouch: Obviously we know these characters really well by now. And yeah, there's a little bit of an open endedness you've read my novels — there's always an open endedness in my novels. I want the reader to continue the journey in their own mind. As for a season 2, I think we have to let the series play out we have to see where things stand and just do a gut check. See if there's an appetite for that.
Joel Edgerton: There are almost too many possibilities. When you're dealing with a contraption like the box, or if you're talking about a show that deals with time travel, it's almost like there's too many possibilities. The question is what is the best direction to move in? The great thing is, Blake is not somebody who just had one novel in him. Obviously, he's written many, many great speculative science fiction novels. He's got an incredible, creative, elastic brain.
