Police believe a physical altercation may have been the motive behind a recent slaying inside a Red Bird home, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

Officers responded about 2 a.m. May 12 to a home in the 5100 block of South Hampton Road and found 34-year-old Oliver Bradley dead from gunshot wounds, police said.Immediately after the shooting, witnesses told detectives Bradley was involved in a physical altercation earlier in the evening before Bradley’s girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend and another man — later identified at Bennett — arrived at the apartment, an officer wrote in the warrant.

Bennett then allegedly “without warning” pulled a handgun from his pocket and shot Bradley multiple times before the leaving the apartment.Detectives later interviewed Bradley’s girlfriend, who told police Bradley and her ex-boyfriend had fought hours before the shooting and said Bennett was the shooter, the affidavit says.

Bennett remained in custody Monday at the Dallas County jail on the murder charge and multiple unrelated felony charges, records show. His bond is listed at more than $1.8 million.Letters to the Editor — Lupe Valdez, dementia services, gun laws, NRA, Second Amendment, Breaking News Reporter.
