The city’s money comes with requirements that a minimum of 1,100 jobs are preserved in Dallas, with 35% of its headquarters employees being city residents. Neiman Marcus said it would create a minimum of 300 new jobs in Dallas by the end of 2026 to meet the requirements. “There was no reason to make that exception for Neiman Marcus,” Ridley said. “If we’re going to do these kinds of deals, they have to be accountable and enforceable.

When a city has to essentially pay to keep a business there, then maybe it is not a viable business. It's corporate welfare. Maybe use that money on your citizens rather than bribing a business to stick around.
