Dallas-Forth Worth ranked second in the nation for homes sold and active home listings last month, trailing only New York as the spring selling season heats up.

A sales sign is seen in front of a house at 2826 Tanner St., Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in Dallas.

Nearly 8,500 transactions were closed in April, up from just over 7,800 the previous year. There were more than 13,000 active listings, a 31% year-over-year jump, according to“Compared to a couple of years ago, we are definitely seeing a slightly more balanced market, as homebuyers now have a much greater supply of inventory to pick from, Todd Luong, an agent with RE/MAX DFW Associates, said in a statement.

“We’ve started the busy homebuying season on a very good note. Gains in home sales, new listings and the number of homes for sale are all signs of a more active, rebalancing market,” Amy Lessinger, RE/MAX President, said in the report. “This has happened without a significant drop in interest rates — suggesting that buyers and sellers may be less apt to delay their plans this year. More sellers have come into the market — and they’re finding buyers who are ready to go.”Donald R.
