First, Roscioli purchased several brands of disposable razors. All of the blades were similar in terms of composition, he says. Under the powerful microscope, it was clear that the apparently smooth sharp edges had a jagged roughness.Credit: Gianluca Roscioli, Tasan Group at MIT What happened more frequently was appearance of chips and fractures invisible to the naked eye. "The size of the chips are about 1/10 of the diameter of a human hair," Roscioli says."The more I shaved, the more chips started appearing on the blade."
In addition, minuscule cracks are already present in an unused razor blade. Another important factor turned out to be where the hair is pushing on the blade in relationship to those existing cracks.
Seriously? THIS? is what we’re reading as the American Empire crumbles, the Earth reclaims itself from the abusive human race, & the new plague rages?Poor NPR. I guess that’s what happens when the Koch Brothers infiltrate the Board? You get news fit for FOX: irrelevant & inane.
My dad said he was able to use a blade for six months by rinsing it after each stroke.
Here’s a life hack. Keep your razors in a cup of baby oil. Keeps them sharp and they don’t rust.

So glad researchers are working on this important science! 🙄
Shaving is for chumps
As a Metallurgical Engineer, the thing I'm most amazed by is not the technology, that's been around for decades. It's that no one had done these experiments before, or that it was and it hasn't been published
In other news, water is wet.
I can Finally sleep at night.

NPR, Your article did not explain why when you use HOT WATER on the blade it makes it much easier to shave than when you don’t use hot water. Why does the hot water help?
Slow News day?

What about damages to the skin?

Not gonna lie, I thought this was an ad for Harry’s or dollar shave club.
I spend a fortune on razors.
I want more info. What blades? what temp water? Was a brush used? Did he soak before shaving?
Of course the manufacturers know all of this, but they would never sell any razors if they perfected it. Razors are designed to maximise sales.
It gets dull from water collecting on the blade then evaporating leaving minerals that corrode the sharp edge. Leave the blade pointing up or throw into any liquid like baby oil. Will last for ages.
I wonder if this will have a use in developing better steel for haircutting scissors.
Disposable razors...pfffffffffffffft. Use a safety razor you snowflakes!
And you know the headline-writer is so pleased with that pun. 🙄🤡
Gillette ☝🏻
It's pretty easy to keep disposable razors sharp. After you are done shaving, take the razor and with the head down and pointed away from you (no accidents!) drag the razor forward down the inside length of your forearm. Then
