N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a press conference today that ventilators now cost $50,000—a 150% increase in price as the state’s cases surge to over 66,000 by lisettevoytko

Topline:

Cuomo said that ventilators now cost over $50,000, as opposed to the $20,000 when the state first attempted to purchase them, because states are competing with each other to obtain enough of the devices in anticipation of a surge of patients. Cuomo said the rate of doubling of cases is now at six days, as compared to doubling every two to five days, which means is a sign that the number is slowing.

don’t know what that means. I don’t know what he’s trying to say. If he wants to make an accusation, let him make an accusation.”

California got 170 broken ventilators from feds; Silicon Valley is fixing them, Newsom saysAmid the coronavirus outbreak, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the U.S. government sent L.A. County broken ventilators, so a Silicon Valley company is fixing them. The problem with this kind of reporting? Were the units functional? Did they need a new battery or missing a power cord? Or, did the units not work at all? But, it's a good plan to have a team assembled ready to trouble-shoot what we can get. They weren't broken, they just needed new batteries/ power supplies.
