A Cumberland Valley School Board member announced his resignation Monday, referencing the Board’s decision to reinvite author and actor Maulik Pancholy to speak at the middle school.
Brian Drapp made the announcement on social media, saying, in part, he is "uncomfortable with assembling 12-, 13-, and 14-year-old students to listen to someone who supports violent protests."He said that those values do not support the school district’s mission statement, adding that the events from the board’s special meeting on April 24 only confirmed his belief.
Last month, Drapp called for the resignation of board member Bud Schaffner, who originally proposed on April 15 that the Board uninvite Pancholy to the middle school for an anti-bullying assembly. After the school board received public backlash for canceling Pancholy’s speaking event, it hosted a special meeting on April 24. There, the board heard hours of public comment and eventually voted to reinstate the event, now scheduled for May 22.
