Firefighters extinguished a fire at a vacant building which caught fire in southeast Houston.

HOUSTONThe Houston Fire Department said the fire happened at the building near the intersection of Telephone Road and Griggs Road.is currently on scene near Telephone & Griggs performing extinguishment efforts after receiving reports of a building on fire. No FF or civilian injuries have been reported. Please avoid the area due to heavy emergency traffic.A HFD district chief said firefighters were able to get the fire under control and extinguished pretty quickly.

The district chief said the building has been vacant and locked up for about five years and is owned by Houston ISD.The district chief said it is possible there were homeless people inside the building, but that is under investigation and the cause right now is not known.Christian Terry covered digital news in Tyler and Wichita Falls before returning to the Houston area where he grew up.
