Rabens Saloner’s AW21 collection show was one of the most traditional presentations of the digital season, and to be quite honest, I enjoyed it!
Filmed in a New York industrial warehouse, and serenaded by ambient duo RKDIA, the models strutted down the ‘catwalk’ with a refreshing energy, showing off the collection in its’ best light. Light was the topic of inspiration for Birgitte Raben this season - light on water, the glimmering surface of a swimming pool, the reflection of the moon - the contrast, fluidity, shade and stillness were all aspects for inspiration. The collection had two sides to it, a flowing, light pool of silver, pink and a structured, deep range of black, blue and ash, supplemented by green, caramel and purple.
As well as a playing with colour, Birgitte played with textures to distort perceptions. Washed cord and puckered silk reflected the shiny surfaces and deep depths of bodies of water, while oversized stitches on knitwear and hand-dyed mohair provided an irresistible warmth to nature-inspired looks.
My favourite parts of the collection were the padded hats and gloves, matching navy pea coat and skirt , and the oversized grey knit jumper paired with knee-high, wader style boots. Who knows, maybe the tie-dye balaclava will even make it to the slopes with me next season?Overall the collection was diverse, fresh and practical - there were outfits for your everyday and then some.
