The move had huge costs - socially, emotionally and academically, so could schools have been kept open?

pushed to have schools closed in January 2021, messages published by the Daily Telegraph suggest.

The BBC has not seen or independently verified the WhatsApp messages, so cannot judge the context in which they were sent. But this option was, in the end, rejected, and schools in England closed until early March. The country started to see infection rates fall quite sharply and soon we had one of Europe's lowest levels of Covid.

In the following months, several government scientists lamented the failure to do more to keep schools open, at least for some age groups.Could it have been different? England - and for that matter the rest of the UK where schools were closed too - was not unique in closing schools. There are questions to answer about prioritisation too. There were periods, for example, when hairdressers and bars were open, but schools were not.Ministers could, of course, could have kept schools open in January 2021 and accepted there was a greater risk of the virus spreading, safe in the knowledge that children were at low risk of severe illness.

The enquiry will provide the answers, I'm interested in why some politicians rushed to give family friends and crooks opportunity to screw the tax payer and for some reason don't want an investigation how to get some of the billions wasted back to us. Anyone else?

No, nothing should have closed. More people will die from lockdowns than from the virus.

BreesAnna really really wants her job back. She really thinks you were all so lovely. Not like those Nazi alt media bigots. Pleeez pleeeez pleeeeez give Anna her job back, or else she’ll make another video of her crying.

Covid was the head of the century masks are theatre and mRNA isn’t a vaccine

Arrest modazalam matt Hancock

No

Yes. Apart from the people who suffered personal tragedy covid may seem shrouded in the mists of history but at the time anything that could be done to stop the spread should have been done. The problem was that this wasn't allways the case.

No.

Yes they were spreading it but they should have gone back sooner

And this?

Yes, my nephew was in hospital with COVID caught from school, then you had school kids going to see their vulnerable relatives. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, reality is COVID was not anything we have seen in our lifetime, they did what they did based on the evidence at time

Hancock made money by corrupt means because of the pandemic

No - Hancock must have relished it

Ah. Hindsight. Wonderful tool.

A jail cell awaits this prick.

no, he was an absolute pillock.

Is he the same as MidazolamMatt

Was the BBC right to push for the lockdowns which was worse than the disease, useless mask wearing and deadly jabs?

…my daughter caught Covid in school, spent the next day home with me, 2 days later I was in a coma with Covid, 7 weeks of induced coma, 13 weeks total in ICU makes me think maybe schools should have closed earlier

No not even remotely

What did the unions think?

No. MattHancock has always been too far on the autistic spectrum to make reliable judgement calls. We embarrass ourselves in believing that he could.

Why keep bringing it up it's history

Hindsight is great, but as many other countries did the exact same thing, is he really in the wrong? Also, who are the 'experts'? Have they actually studied a world wide pandemic first hand and therefore able to give 'expert' advice? No. They studied 100 year flu data.

Yes

I think so

Concentrate instead on how and why these messages are coming out now. Ask what is in it for the Telegraph hack. Ask why these channels existed and why Hancock gave private messages away. Ask why all the messages are not archived correctly.

In England

Disgusting reporting by the BBC, Wales closed their schools down on the 20th March , followed by Scotland, followed by NI, then England did so. If he hadn’t the media would have slated him. Funny how the BBC left that salient snippet out of the article.

Most countries did the same, which is no surprise as nobody knew how it would pan out. Hindsight is very easy.

Now do a article and cover all the massive amounts of money that vanished to his family members friends in shady covid contract deals. An investigation is needed asap.

I can't see the point of discussing it. It was done, it's over and one can't change whats done. Look forward, not back and don't waste time on 'what ifs'

I think it’s proven now - no. And neither was all of the other lockdown / mask nonsense. Anyone who expressed concern was just called a covid denier. Pathetic.

who knows, you were continuously pushing for more restrictions, maybe you should ask your news editors?

This is Isabelle Oakeshott and the Telegraph trying to make us believe that lockdowns were a waste of time when at the time there was no vaccines and the virus was highly transmissible and was killing a lot of people. We were all very worried for our families and friends.

No

Nothing should have been closed.

Typical BBC. The SNP started that ball rolling and if he hadn’t followed the scum media (Looks at the BBC) would have screamed the Gov isn’t bothered about children , I mean you did sing all the praises about Sturgeon and how she responded to C19.

No.

i got covid the first time in dec 2020 because we didnt. And why didnt we? Cos the Govt deliberately and willfully ignored the fact that schools were a vector for disease. No vaccines. Long covid for one family member for 6 months. My ears still ring. 100,000+ died. Tories!

No.

What kind of fucking question is this?

Yes...otherwise families all around Britain would have had internal outbreaks. Easy to forget how bad everything was

Ask the question whether it was right to sort out a £20m ppe contract for his pub landlord, that's a better one!!

I dunno, was he right to shovel our money to Tory donors, friends and family and take a cut himself? Possibly not eh?

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Isn’t hind sight a great thing. No one knew the actual mortality rate, or the effects at the time.

Yes

No

Has he ever done anything right?

Yes

Who gives a flying shite?

A 0.04 fatality is miniscule so no

Hancock is left alone to take the fall for the lies n corruption from all in gov, BBC n other media outlets all have blood on their hands but will act like they tried to warn us..this story will die down n Hancock will be whisked away somewhere n nobody will face justice.
