Covid-19: UK 'not learning lessons of Australia quarantine'

Australia's system, introduced early last year, is seen as among the best internationally.

UK Home Office minister Victoria Atkins said the system being introduced was "very strong" and its "standards are amongst the strongest in the world".In Australia, people staying in quarantine hotels are not allowed to leave their rooms. The upshot is that travellers will be allowed out of their rooms for a limited set of exemptions, including exercise.

In New Zealand, smoking breaks are allowed, under escort, but with strict guidance not to get close to anyone else.Policy on this changed in Australia after the risks of meal service became apparent.

Of course it is. We humans are super-dumbasses and lazy as hell.

Central policy has been one of moving in the direction of herd immunity without the health and social care system imploding. Virtually all of the (reactive rather than proactive) 'remedial'/risk reduction policies to have come in have essentially been 'going through the motions'.
