Black Americans are becoming infected with the coronavirus at a rate 3 times that of whites and they are twice as likely to die from COVID-19, according to a new report from the National Urban League.

, provided by Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity and included in the Urban League's report, shows that the coronavirus infection rate for Blacks is 62 per 10,000, compared with 23 per 10,000 for whites. Latinos fared even worse, with 73 infections per 10,000.

Further,"Black people with COVID-19 symptoms in February and March were less likely to get tested or treated than white patients," Morial wrote in a"Studies showed that doctors downplayed Black patients' complaints of pain, prescribed weaker pain medication and withheld cardiac treatments from Black patients who needed them," he said.

Long-term care facilities account for less than 1% of the U.S. population, but more than 40 percent of COVID-19 deaths. Why are we so racist against old people in long term care?

So now our MDs are racist against blacks? When did doctors join officers, police departments, prosecutors, courts, prisons, educational system, voting suppressors, Trump, Target and CVS in secretly holding down blacks? Paranoia SLOPPY 'ACCUSATION' story designed 2b divisive

This is not new news. What is going to be done about it?

TedInJest This is why I don’t listen to your station!!!

STFU They don't prescribe any medication to anyone anymore. I'm white and have been in pain for 8months on l&I. Still waiting to get surgery. No meds..Sounds to me they are treating everyone the same....

So blacks' refusal to wear masks has nothing to do with it? Was in Philly yesterday, only about 20% of blacks I saw in center city were masked as opposed to 100% of whites. Every single white person. So masks don't work. Gotcha.

Cite that study which claims blacks get less pain treatment.

Not all doctors. Point is still valid and very concerning.

Sounds about right. The 1619 project addressed the historic medical mistreatment to the black community. From giving black men syphilis on purpose to neglect of black women during child birth. THIS IS WHO WE ARE. The Hippocratic oath is bullshit for black patients.

Is this true for Black doctors as well? Or was it only White doctors?

Racist virus....

More excuses.

Check out the scoring system for diagnostics.

Hard to know why doctors, as a profession, are so racist.

I changed the world in science and psychiatry over a decade ago and shithole NPR said nothing. You get this hyperbole. Had enough of the Bipolar Media yet, America?

From what I've seen in my area, COVID seems to circulate *within* a racial/ethnic community more than *between* communities. The closer knit the community, the higher the spread. If more risk factors - poverty, age, health - exist in that population, outcomes are worse.

Sounds right. Also true for brown people.

We are told no masks, no social distance spreads the disease and it’s especially devastating to those who have diabetes, are over weight and have cardio issues, high BP etc. Is this community, not following social distancing/mask advice? Do they have a higher % of risk factors

Yellowstone supervolcano, asteroid Apophis or Canary island tsunami please do your thing.

I HATE IT HERE

'COVID-19 Death Rate For Black Americans Twice That For Whites' It's not racial disparities. It's undiagnosed insulin resistance and vitamin D status. Pay attention. . .

Just stop it ! Enough! Yes, blacks and Hispanics may be more predisposed to COVID along with many other diseases, but to blame the healthcare providers is absurd. As a retired nurse in the Deep South, I never saw anyone given subcare or denied tx due to race.

Obviously a statistic that leads to the conclusion that at least half of all doctors are racists.

fact gingers have a 20% higher pain tolerance than humans 💊

Pretty much genocide.

It is interesting to see how Covid has impacted many communities including African-Americans and Hispanics. Many of these individuals have to be working to support their families therefore, exposed to the virus at higher rates! WearAMask COVID19

Doctors are all racists. Put all of them in Robin Di Angelo’s re-education camp.

Obesity

I hate playing the race card but this shit is so true. They are also more aggressive so you are stuck trying to make them feel at ease instead of talking about your health.

It could be racism, or it could be a lack of vitamin D that many black Americans have, just like the experts are saying it is. I’m sure you’ll just go with racism though.

Now talk about the 70 days of protests and the insane exposure risks thereof.

Generally speaking, medicaid only pays for so much. Broadly speaking most black people receive this federally subsidized medical service. So yes, they'd get less because it's 'free' (I paid for it via taxes).

Sounds like GREAT NEWS! From such a reputable Negro organization as the Nat'l Urban League? Whoa. Not again. Is this another 'immune system' (weakened)/thin veins (chokeholds) gig? With an AIRBORNE virus? Where EVERYTHING remotely human w/lungs is susceptible? Reparations? NOW!

Local activists long witnessed disproportionate tolls of death & disease on communities of color in Brownsville, NYC - Black & Latino people make up about 95% of the pop. Nationwide, these communities 3x as likely to get COVID-19 as white people.

I guess this all white people's fault, right? Thanks for more news that divides us. We appreciate it.

Thanks to NPR, MSM and silly white guilt we blacks can take zero responsibility for ourselves! (odd how other minorities can get their $hit together in one generation in the USA and when we can’t it’s white peoples’ fault)

'World to End Tomorrow! Women and Minorities Hardest Hit!' thank you Rush Limbaugh

It's from factors other than the melanin levels in skin. Why doesn't NPR drop this race baiting crap and report the actual causes without making race a factor? DefundNPR

Now is that because of bad habits or because COVID-19 is racist? The left probably thinks it was made by Donald Trump to rig the election still or some ridiculous BS like that.

Post about science Friday! My favorite NPR show. However Car Talk will always be 1, wish they were still on the air.

The virus is racist.

Biden/Harris is talking about making it mandatory to wear a mask...maybe that will help. But who will enforce the law?

trump knows this. It’s why he’s done absolutely nothing to stop it. He knows who it’s killing and he wants more

gut theses fish Send a message to repressive and elitists leaders by charging Trump with CrimesAgainstHumanity

The reason is likely socio-economic. Minorities are overwhelmingly living in poverty, where medical care availability is much lower. Urban hospitals are typically overcrowded, and understaffed. There are many broad issues causing this problem.

Behavior and personal responsibility are important factors. If you know you are at greater risk of death from coronavirus, you should be even more cognizant of taking the necessary precautions to prevent infection. Unfortunately this has not been my observation where I live.

Racismaspublichealthcrisis

Black people still live in 3rd world sh**holes like Atlanta, Baltimore stacked up on top of each other. Density is key.

So what you’re saying is that the hospital care for blacks with Covid is better than that of whites. Racist system we have.

Comorbidities

Who would guess a virus out of china would be so racist?

They don’t follow the rules - just come to New Orleans and look around. It is what it is.

Maybe stop protesting

COVID is racist.

On my timeline promoting the HacksOfDC Time to 🚫

Black people are over represented in the high risk categories- obesity & diabetes. This part seems to get dropped from the narrative. Now it’s time to have national conversation on health. We are living in a country where nearly 25% of the population is obese. This is a problem.

wow..a must watch....

And that's why the tRump administration is not concerned with Covid-19.

Three times as likely to not wear masks and gather in crowds more a factor than access to healthcare issues. Apologists again won’t speak truth on the why of Black problems. They bring it on themselves.

I think you mean “poor people” but keep dividing us.

Dear NPR, White and Black Americans, Yes blacks are dying at an alarming rate but so or whites. The numbers they are hiding-are the number of white folks that are also dying. They realize that if white folks realize they are dying in large numbers too- all hell will break loose.
