Michigan Supreme Court rules that Flint residents whose health and homes were harmed by lead-contaminated water may proceed with lawsuit against public officials.

New research shows that dozens of cities across the country may suffer from lead contamination in their water supply.DETROIT -- Flint residents whose health and homes were harmed by lead-contaminated water scored a legal milestone Wednesday when the Michigan Supreme Court said they could proceed with a lawsuit against public officials for the disastrous decisions that caused the scandal.

The court's opinion was a key procedural step in long-running litigation that now will return to the Court of Claims.residents could pursue a claim of diminished property values. Residents also can argue that their right to bodily integrity was violated by the use of corrosive water from the Flint River.

Flint used water from the Flint River in 2014-15 without treating it to reduce the corrosive effect on old pipes. As a result, lead leached into the system. Use of the river water was supposed to be a temporary measure while a pipeline was built to Lake Huron. “Defendants have fought plaintiffs every step of the way by attempting to foreclose their lawsuit through procedural grounds. Yet, the people of Flint have endured, and they now ask for an opportunity to be heard,” Bernstein said. “The judiciary should be the one governmental institution that hears their grievances and affords them the opportunity to at least proceed with their case.”

mgobluegirl6 Finally! Yet they still don’t have clean drinking water. Fcked up

Why there needed to be a ruling on this? Maybe the victims should have considered street justice if this obvious response needs to be litigated.

I THANK GOD FOR JESUS CHRIST IN ANSWERING THE PRAYERS OF THE RESIDENTS.

azwildcatsfan That was fast.

using the flint river was reckless disregard for life, and such stupidity and callousness should not go without a jury's decision, no form of qualified immunity should stop that, no...

Does this then set a precedent for covid19 ?

About damn time

Trump Administration Refuses To Accept New DACA Applicants Despite Court RulingsThe Trump administration is refusing to accept new applications while it undertakes a 'comprehensive review' of DACA — despite a ruling from the Supreme Court that blocked President Trump’s effort to end the program last month. LAW AND ORDER!! Bad opinion. It did not 'block' his efforts, merely said the Court shall not undo something Obama did, and if Trump wants to undo it, he can undo it himself. Trump had asked the Court to declare DACA unconstitutional. Oh wow, another example of Trump refusing to abide by the SC and the Constitution. What do you think his stance will be towards both come election time?
