After years of seeing veteran homelessness decline locally, this year's count saw an increase. The Board of Supervisors endorsed a plan to end veterans homelessness in February.

Landlords and residential property owners can play a role in ending local veterans homelessness by accepting their housing vouchers and offering them a room, city and county officials said Thursday.

In 2022, the count found a 27 percent drop in veterans homelessness since 2020, the last year a full count was conducted before the pandemic. The county’s population of homeless veterans had been decreasing over the past decade, and this year’s number was 52 percent lower than the 1,381 homeless veterans counted in 2015.

Landlords and property owners willing to take in a veteran can get more information by calling 211 or filling out a form atThe goal is to reach functional zero for homeless veterans, the level when the number of people experiencing homelessness is less than the number of homeless people a community can house in one month.
