The WHO warns countries to prepare more for coronavirus as the disease is ‘literally knocking at the door’

GENEVA - Countries need to prepare immediately for an outbreak of the novel coronavirus so they can respond rapidly when it arrives, a top World Health Organization expert said on Tuesday.

“If you don’t think that way, you’re not going to be ready,” he said, saying it was an “incredibly interconnected world”. Aylward said China’s “extraordinary mobilization” to handle the outbreak showed how an aggressive public health policy, including large quarantines, could curb the spread. Asked whether known cases might be the tip of the iceberg, he said: “Probably we are not missing a huge amount .”
