while filling out mandatory financial disclosure forms. But he did report an unspecified gift from Longstreth for both 2019 and 2020, according to his financial disclosures.
During a June 2021 legislative hearing, state Rep. Bill Seitz, who led what amounted to Householder’s defense, described the law this way. “To say that a legislator can go out and solicit a corporation to give vast sums of money to a friend of yours and then have the friend give you a gift of vast sums of money and that you’re going to get away with that by calling it a gift, that was always a pretty shoddy argument,” Stewart said.
The bill hasn’t been introduced yet, but it would require lobbyists to disclose all income, as paid to them by individual clients. Current state law only requires lobbyists to disclose which clients they represent. The proposed new standard is similar to requirements for congressional lobbying. House Minority Leader Allison Russo, an Upper Arlington Democrat, said she’s willing to work with Merrin to advance the bill, but hasn’t heard from him about it.
