White House officials and top Democrats are set to meet as they remain at odds over extending the $600 weekly unemployment benefits that expired in July.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows speak to reporters at the Capitol, Aug. 3, 2020, in Washington, D.C. This slight progress Tuesday night comes after Republican senators -- leaving a closed-door GOP lunch earlier in the day -- said Mnuchin told their conference that no headway had been made.
"I want my school to make all the investments necessary to keep them safe and what we know is that safety for kids doesn't magically fall from the tree. You have to pay for it," said Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., a father of two children who attend public school."Masks and gloves and sanitizer and cleaning supplies -- they cost money. Adjustments to school buildings to create enough social distance to comply with CDC regulations -- that costs money.
"I think I've made it very clear for some time now, if you're looking for a total consensus among Republican senators, you're not going to find it. So we do have divisions about what to do," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters.
Sen. Rob Portman said he is talking to about a dozen Democrats to try to find common ground on one of the biggest ticking points -- a federal, expanded unemployment insurance benefit that is lower than the $600 per week paycheck that just ran out for some 30 million Americans.
PROTEST PROTEST...... EVERYONE in CONGRESS should STOP getting paid themselves and see how they like it!!! 🤬 Enough is enough! PROTEST PROTEST PROTEST....
SpeakerPelosi - if you fix yourself as an immovable object, Trump will simply go around you. Stop your games and step up for America...or get stepped on by Trump.
They should be allowed a vacation until their job is done. They get too many “recesses” either way.
Plus elle me parle, plus elle s'expose à sa propre mort! 🇨🇳🔥🇳🇬
Why not make it easy - pass the Hero’s Act. It’s been ready since May - send it to President, in his rush for votes, he’d sell his own family for a few votes.
Well.... duh!
Pelosi is always on vacation
Yes it does.
Huge news today.. Like when the FBI was investigating Hillary
Here’s an idea, see if all of them can survive on the $200 a week they are proposing for the rest of Americans. I bet not.
*Jim Mora Voice* What's that?....Recess? Don't talk to me about recess, are you kidding me?

They have had the House Bill for 11 weeks now. Do something! Pass it or come up with another option.
Or done away with!
Seven European countries with a combinie pupulation of 336 million people have had 159,000 deaths from Covid 19. The U.S. with a population of 330 million people have had 158,000 death from covid 19. The U.S. has tested 17 million more people than than the European's.
How the hell can anyone in Congress take a recess when the country is in the grips of a spiraling emergency? Americans are suffering & dying. Who the hell do you bozos think you represent? Who the hell voted for you? You have a moral imperative to do something productive to help.
they get more time off and make more money then most Americans. Worthless people in Washington
I have $100 that says the Senate takes their vacation. They will hand wring for awhile for the sound bite and then leave anyway. I’ve seen this episode of The Morally Bankrupt.
