The increase has prompted hospitals in the region to begin to prepare for a surge of sick patients, according to the director of the Orange County Health Care Agency.

The number of patients hospitalized with confirmed coronavirus infections reached new heights Thursday in Orange County — jumping 97% over the past three weeks — an indicator that health experts say makes it clear the virus is spreading more rapidly in the region.

The spike has prompted hospitals countywide to begin to prepare for a surge of sick patients, said Orange County Health Care Agency Director Dr. Clayton Chau. The increase in hospitalizations comes as the number of new infections continues to rise in Orange County. On Thursday, health officials reported 1,292 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of infections to 21,517. Officials also reported 26 fatalities, pushing the county’s death toll past 400.

The number of people in intensive care units has also continued to climb steadily countywide, though not as quickly as overall hospitalizations. As of Thursday, 234 patients were being treated in intensive care units. Three weeks earlier there were 149 patients, according to county data.

They will call anything a coronavirus hospitalization

Stop. Financially. Raping. Essential. Landlords.🤬🤯😳

Just spreading fear again. What exactly does 97% rise in hospitalizations mean? It means a country of over 3,000,000 residents went from 350 to 691 hospitalizations , of which 236 are ICU. While scary for those affected, these are not numbers to be in a panic over.

Death rate in state is 2%! FACT CHECK: As of now less than 5% of people diagnosed with covid19 die! 37 million Test results less than 8 % positive. Slums maybe higher! Vitamin D3 and zinc helps a lot! These anti vaccine probably don't wear a 3M N95 mask around others?

JimAvilaABC Governor Newsom needs to close everything down again, including beaches and parks, and make police help enforce mandates concerning C-19. That's a difficult thing to do, but this has gotten beyond out of control.

I wonder what was happening in Southern California 3-4 weeks ago...🤔. Thanks Antifa.

But “the riots” right

GOOD thing they kept the beaches opened and refused to wear masks and their law enforcement didn't care and the local cities ignored the STATE rules NOW they can enjoy the results

That’s the county that demanded swift reopening and then ran the health director out of office when she said they should wear masks right?
