Cool, damp, 'May gray' weather will last through Wednesday in San Diego [Breaking]

The loved-and-loathed weather pattern known as “May gray” will linger over San Diego through midweek, making for cool conditions at Petco Park, where the Padres will host the Cubs Monday through Wednesday.

Moist air off the ocean will lower the marine layer to within 2,000 feet of the ground on Monday and Tuesday, keeping San Diego’s daytime high from surpassing 66, says the National Weather Service. The thermometer will top out at 64 on Wednesday, five degrees below the seasonal average. A warming trend begins on Thursday, and the temperature is expected to hit 75 in San Diego next weekend.

The daytime high in San Diego has not hit 70 or above since April 26. It won’t hit that mark before Wednesday. Strong rip currents will continue at the coast, where relentless weekend winds whipped up waves cresting at 4 feet to 8 feet off some parts of San Diego County, the weather service said.
