DOTHAN, Ala. - Coley McCraney stuck by his claim that someone else killed two Dothan teens during a 20/20 episode that aired Friday on ABC.
Now serving a life sentence without the chance of parole, McCraney spoke by phone with the long-running news program from William Donaldson Correctional Institute. However, jurors believe he was so violent he executed Beasley and her high school classmate and close friend Tracie Hawlett. Some believe McCraney doomed his chances for acquittal when he took the stand and described how he met Beasley for what he said would likely be a one-night stand.
Despite those claims, there is no evidence that the two met before the night the girls died, with their bodies found in the trunk of their car. “When people are looking for a villain, it’s not hard to point a finger at who you want,” McCraney said, confident that an appeals court will overturn his convictions.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
