FORT WORTH, Texas — After nearly three decades in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Kay Granger has announced thatGranger has represented Texas' 12th Congressional District in the U.S. House since 1997. She currently serves as the first Republican female chair of the House Appropriations Committee. TheBefore that, Granger was the first female mayor of Fort Worth, then became Texas' first Republican U.S. congresswoman.
Granger said in her statement that will finish the rest of her current term. She also said she is"encouraged" by the next group of leaders in her district. Her district was drawn to favor Republicans and will likely stay in the GOP column. She alluded in her statement to the race to succeed her, saying it is time for the"next generation to step up and take the mantle and be a strong and fierce representative for the people."She and other Republicans ultimately coalesced around Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., for speaker.
