Trump warns of sanctions if Iraq, a U.S. ally, tries to expel U.S. troops

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump insists that Iranian cultural sites are fair game for the U.S. military, dismissing concerns within his own administration that doing so could constitute a war crime under international law. He also warned Iraq that he would levy punishing sanctions if it expelled American troops in retaliation for a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad that killed a top Iranian official.

“It is critical that national security matters of such import be shared with the American people in a timely manner, they wrote. “An entirely classified notification is simply not appropriate in a democratic society.” They asked that the notification be declassified “in full.” “They’re allowed to kill our people. They’re allowed to torture and maim our people. They’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we’re not allowed to touch their cultural sites? It doesn’t work that way,” Trump said.

Pompeo defended the targeted killing of Soleimani, saying the administration would have been “culpably negligent” in its duty to protect the United States if it had not killed him. The president’s threats to Iran did little to quell Tehran’s furor over the death of Soleimani. Iranian state television reported that the country would no longer abide by any limits of the 2015 nuclear deal it signed with the United States and other world powers. Trump withdrew the U.S. from the deal in 2018 and stepped up economic sanctions on Tehran, actions that accelerated a cycle of hostilities leading to the last week’s killing.

Israeli prime minister says Donald Trump 'deserves all the credit' for Qassem Soleimani killingBenjamin Netanyahu said Trump acted 'swiftly' and 'forcefully' in his decision to assassinate Soleimani. The assassination of General Soleimani is Iran's 9/11. In fact, it's the Region's 9/11. This act of terrorism by the United States would forever divide the region's history into before and after General Soleimani's assassination. It would mark the end of US presence in West Asia. Right. This was not an 'American' action; it had no Congressional approval. It was an assassination. So, the person who did this should receive ALL of the retribution. Every bit of whatever they choose to offer as payback. Go for the money, the votes, the properties, the docs. He's more than happy to take the credit but always has his bus idling on the sidelines.
