WASHINGTON—In a display of its ongoing commitment to the pursuit of scientific knowledge, Congress passed a measure Thursday approving the acquisition of an empty paper towel roll for NASA to use as a telescope.

“Thanks to this generous act, our scientists will soon be able to cover up one eye, squint through a cardboard tube with the other, and sort of see a few stars,” said NASA administrator Bill Nelson, who explained the legislation would enable researchers to extract a paper towel roll from a recycling bin, paint it black, and cover it with shiny foil star stickers. “The only limit now is our own imagination.

*Only if the paper towel roll is made in the state of Georgia, specifically the 3rd district. Also

They appropriated 7 billion dollars for it.

How are they to know which eye to close?

It’s not inanimate carbon rod, but it will do.

“It’s almost twice as long as the toilet paper tube we are using now”

A new joint venture for Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos

I'm surprised it got through the Senate.

And it cost $3,456,000,000

Sounds about right with the current atmosphere

I need to go visit my recycling so I can make one of these 🥹

🤣🤣🤣 Nice one !

How are we going to profit off this technology?

🤣 I'm howling!

at $2.8 million it seemed like a bargain

That's more reusable than the Falcon 9.

I’m not really sure how that will work better but I haven’t read the article, so I guess.

The Russians are way ahead of us.

Pentagon needed the real money to blow up things in ten different ways.

AmyFaris2 Hello how are you doing, accept my request

And they only charged 3 million for it. A bargain.

DerrickJWyatt ... It cost fourteen million dollars.

It's an upgrade of the legacy 'Joseph Gayetty Telescope' empty toilet paper roll they're currently using.

Works great. Just print on clear film what you want to see and add a light source. Bang! The cosmos the way it was already captured with billion dollar equipment. Great diy pocket solution. Way easier than NASA in F10 or working with ivy league universities as I suggested.

This is the kind of forward thinking that'll eventually pull us out of this climate change.

Only the best for NASA

What if they get two?

Glad you liked the idea ;)

slow day?

jetcitystar DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH THIS WOULD COST ESPECIALLY AFTER THE INEVITABLE BLUE ORIGIN LAWSUIT!!

AlanStern 😂

fcain Let's hope the JWST gets off the ground before this kind of funding program hits it.

the image looks like a tweet made by awesomepapers

Almost that bad...

Joe Manchin will claw it back in reconciliation.

If only...

2 toilet paper rolls would work just as well.

It's a helluva megaphone, too.

....and a sword!
