Confederate Monuments Come Down: Alexandria Statue Removed, As ‘Black Lives Matter’ Written On Others

a long-controversial Confederate monument by Tuesday after it was partially destroyed in protests and another monument was torn down by protesters., though they made this statement on their website in 2018: “We are saddened that some people find anything connected with the Confederacy to be offensive. Our Confederate ancestors were and are Americans.

We as an Organization do not sit in judgment of them nor do we impose the standards of the 21st century on these Americans of the 19th century.”Confederate statues have sources of tension and fierce debate. It came to a violent head in 2017 when white supremacists and other far-right groups protested the city’s decision to remove or relocate Confederate monuments, ending with one demonstrator driving his car into a counter-protesters, killing a 32-year-old woman.

iamsternlicht I like what Latvia has done with their dishonored historical statues: by putting them by the restrooms. Confederate figures are, and always will be, part of our US history; however, their places need not be in town squares or gov. halls, but maybe next to the lavatories. 😀
