Concerned parent describes 'pressure-cooker' environment at site of Colorado school shooting

One of the first things she noticed was that her child, and other students at STEM School Highlands Ranch, weren't getting enough sleep. The academic workload, she said, seemed crushing. The parent noticed kids stressing out, and lashing out. She said she heard reports of violence, sexual assault and bullying. Yet school officials, she said, seemed to be ignoring the mounting problems.

When she finally picked up the phone to talk to a county school board member in December, she said she was worried that a"perfect storm" was brewing"for something like a Columbine" shooting. The woman's concerns were detailed in a CNN story this week following a shooting at the suburban Denver school that left one student dead and eight others injured.

Suspects were mentally ill

The entire tenor of your article is alarmist and engages in victim blaming. SHAME SHAME SHAME. No amount of upset with a school is license to shoot it up. This is a charter school. Don't like it? Go back to public school. This is a VERY poorly written pieces of journalism.

The Republicans are killing who are born by their pro-gun, pro-war policies, the Democrats are killing who are unborn by their pro-abortion policy.

They filed a lawsuit for defamation they didn't investigate.

Sad part is the school sued for defamation

Oh, poor babies were stressed out with too much homework. Why don’t we let helicopter parents run our education system so that American kids can fall farther behind?

Anonymous parent should have gone to law enforcement. With the massive mental illness issue sweeping the nation as more adults/ teens, etc cannot cope w/ their failed lives you would think the media would report on the 'real story'.

In 2017 there were 144 police officers who died in the line of duty About 1000 active duty military throughout the world who died And 2462 school-aged children killed by firearms

They picture itself says a thousands word, who really want their children to experience something like this or thinking that their children might be in the middle of something like it.

This is sad to hear. Colorado of all places should be vigilant and ready to prevent these attacks.

'Do the world a favour' was made by a TEACHER in neighboring Jefferson County (same district as Columbine.) Is there ANY question as to why this happens there?

If I lived in America my kids would be home schooled,that country is going backwards,I never thought a civil war would ever happen there,it’s now when will it happen.

Why do we always find out about warnings that something could happen, after something happens?

They should of investigated awhile ago

The complaint was actually extremely broad and kind of nutty - nothing related to the two eventual shooters. It was investigated.

Public relations firm? Defamation suit against anonymous parent? Something very wrong with this school's leadership.

And what did the STEM school do? filed a lawsuit to find out who filed the anonymous complaint instead of looking in to complaint. And we see what that accomplished, a missed chance to prevent a school shooting.

No parent should have to worry about this...it’s to much high innovations to allow such a tragic...our children should be the safest thing on the planet...every school should have security measures that match the times we’re in...self explanatory...projectsaveadopeboy
