More than a thousand people laced up their shoes to raise awareness for HIV and AIDS at Genoa Park at the 2024 Robert J. Fass Aids Walk The annual Robert J. Fass Memorial AIDS Walk returned with flair on Saturday.The 5K walk or run included everyone of all ages."Without the support we're able to generate, folks would not have access to the care they need." David Ernesto Munar , president and CEO of Equitas Health told ABC 6.
Munas told ABC 6 that this event also coincides with the 30th year he has been living with HIV. He said at the time he was diagnosed, there were no effective treatments. "I did not expect to be here 30 years later," he said. "Sadly, there are families here commemorating folks who didn't make it. This event is also to remember the past, celebrate people living with HIV in the present, and build support so that future generations can gain access to education and prevention to stay HIV free."
Organizers said the walk raised more than $200,000 for HIV and AIDS treatment and prevention programs.
