There have been mixed reactions from community members about the House voting to ban TikTok if its China-based owners don’t sell within a year.

The House voted to in favor of a bill that will ban TikTok if its Chinese-based owners don't sell the company within a year.The House votes for possible TikTok ban in the US, but don’t expect the app to go away anytime soon

The House approved the legislation because of widespread data-sharing and foreign influence concerns tied to the app.A community member by the beaches said he didn’t like Congress including the ban with money to help countries in need. Another person said she understands the government being concerned about safety when it comes to the app.

“I see the pros and cons of both of it because there’s some sides of TikTok that aren’t really great,” Ashlyn Weaver said.“TikTok should not be banned. If our representatives cared about the safety of our children, they’d be targeting all social media, not just the Chinese-owned one. It’s a bill rooted in nothing more than fear,” Savannah said.

Greg said, “No, Congress should do their job and pass consumer protections that doesn’t allow social media companies to sell or steal user data.”
