Tue, May 14th 2024 at 9:05 PMA Lancaster County community came together after 16-year-old Curtis Groff was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, May 2nd.Groff had just finished up one of his softball games when, just a few hours later, his life tragically ended.
Mike Givler, the Manheim Church Softball League commissioner, explained, “From there, he went to one of the church’s properties and was doing some mowing and was struck by a vehicle.” At Monday night’s game, his teammates, friends, and family honored his life with a prayer, a moment of silence, and having his dad throw out the first pitch.
“The team has really been struggling with the loss of a friend, a teammate,” said Givler. “He was a very nice kid. Someone who loved his teammates, loved his family, loved the church.”Instead, the head of the church’s softball league relayed their words to us. Givler stated, “Curtis had a big heart. He was a great teammate, but a better friend. A great example of determination, passion, and leadership. I really think playing softball was his happy place. We will play every game for Curtis now.”Stay Connected
