A ribbon cutting Saturday will dedicate redeveloped Somonauk Park, which has new paths, a catch-and-release fishing pond, a kayak rental facility and updated play facilities including an all-abilities playground.

A gushing fountain highlights the pond at the redeveloped Somonauk Park.

The park, along a stretch of Shabbona Drive in the southern end of the village, will showcase its three-year transition from traditional swing sets and a basketball court into what the village calls a “nature adventure park” with new paths, a 2-acre, catch-and-release fishing pond, a kayak rental facility, updated play facilities including an all-abilities playground and a new pavilion.Nothing is free. Park Director Kevin Adams said the redeveloped park will cost $1.

With the formal opening days away, Adams is optimistic the updated park will offer amenities seldom seen in the area.
