She kept her scissors going in South Korea's postwar years. The coronavirus hasn't stopped her

A governor, a pharmacist and a nun: How South Korea’s coronavirus stimulus money wound through a city

Kang started coming to Lee about five years ago after his go-to shop near his office closed. Barbershops, along with the generation that grew up going to them regularly, were fast vanishing — most trend-conscious South Korean men these days preferred to get their cuts at swank hair salons.Seongbuk-gu, the district where Lee lives and works, was once home to more than 300 barbershops; now there are around 80.

“You haven’t any wrinkles because you have no worries to make you frown,” she told him, lathering his chin. “You must’ve had good parents, and a good wife and children.”“People these days don’t know how to use this thing,” he said. “It’s like something out of a Clint Eastwood western.”Lee opens the doors to her shop at 9 a.m. each day and walks out front with still-bleary eyes, scattering puffed rice for a flock of pigeons that have arrived in anticipation of a sidewalk feast.

Lee Duk-hoon gives customer Kang Ung-kwon a hand as he dries off after his haircut at her shop in Seoul. That was plenty, though, for her to pay her bills and buy food. Her modest prices — 10,000 won, or about $8 for a cut — haven’t budged in more than a decade. For seniors and a neighbor with cerebral palsy, she charges half price.

🥺

Funny. The coverage is vastly different between her and the lady in Texas 😂

She’s not the first. When I was there that’s all you had was female barbers

🤍

Tomorrow's Headline: South Korea's first-ever female barber dies of Coronavirus Kidding! 🙏

Column: Grasping for divisive issues, Trump revives a real loser — banning flag burningIn a call with governors, and again at his Tulsa, Okla., rally last week, Trump urged a law the Supreme Court has already overturned repeatedly. opinion Irony is that there is a huge amount of actionable abuse and disrespect ( putting it on clothes/adding pictures of trump) carried on by far right opinion Banning the burning of our American flag is a 'real loser'? It is not freedom of choice, I will give anyone that. Think about our military, though. How many very brave men and women fight for that flag. Banning flag burning is a good debate. Not a 'real loser' opinion They need to respect the flag.

Trump Throws Pre-Rally Tantrum Backstage Because No One Came To His PartyAccording to four people with knowledge of what went down backstage, Trump yelled at aides as he looked “in horror” at the “endless rows of empty blue seats” Get used to that blue color bitch! Well....the seats were blue. “per the New York Times, four [unnamed] people with knowledge of what went down backstage...” So you didn’t do your own reporting, and the second-hand testimony you borrowed from another publication cites anonymous people who won’t even say they were there. Bombshell!
