Consumers seeking health plans exempt from Obamacare are regularly misled by sales reps, the GAO found.

Healthcare sharing ministries siphon enrollment from legitimate health insurance plans, thus weakening the latter and likely driving up their costs.. These “sharing plans” are arrangements that don’t guarantee that enrollees’ claims will be paid at all.

If your needs fall into any of those categories, you may find yourself on your own. In other words, the supposed savings may be entirely illusory.Because these details are murky, consumers seeking such plans can be easily misled. That’s what the GAO documented. Of the 10 others, however, two provided inconsistent or confusing information about what the GAO agents were buying. The other eight sales calls were even more troubling.In all eight cases, the sales representatives told the callers that their diabetes would be covered, even though plan documents the GAO later received made clear that diabetes would be excluded as a preexisting condition, wouldn’t be covered for 12 months, or that the plan limited the number of covered doctor visits.

Continuing on my previous comments. My personal view on the short term plan. Should be limited to 12 mo's - and not renewable. I'd imagine that that would be the fall-back - compromise position for Trump - and for all of us Hope that the LAT's could take a humane look & support

... Con't - a ST plan was their only option - and a damn good inexpensive one to boot. Or, if someone lives abroad - like our daughter - and comes home to visit, she used to get a S-T plan (as little as $100/mo) for the time she was here - just in case. Now scared to come home.

CA banned the sale of short term plans, causing 1000's of people to go for many months - w/o any health insurance coverage. ACA open enrollment is once a yr - for a Jan 1st effective date. If someone somehow looses it - forgets to pay premium or can't for a few mo's - con't ...
