That day eight years ago brought about two significant events in the life of the Hilliard resident: Her youngest granddaughter was born and her mother died from Alzheimer's disease at the age of 95.
"There are so many people, families, groups, businesses that support and come out," Myers said."It's really a wonderful occasion. We're celebrating the support and research, the community." Walk Director Ellie Thien said this year's event will be back in full swing after implementing COVID-19 restrictions in 2021 and having a virtual walk in 2020. She said 1,749 people have registered so far and have raised $536,699 toward research efforts for the Alzheimer's Association. The fundraising goal is $820,000.
More than 6 million people in the United States have Alzheimer's disease, and that number is expected to jump to nearly 13 million by 2050, according to the Alzheimer's Association.
