If it passes, Colorado would join California and Maine as the only states offering school meals free of cost to students.

For all the awfulness of the COVID-19 pandemic, Colorado school nutrition advocates saw in it a major silver lining: It led the federal government to massively expand funding for school meals to the point where every student could eat for free.

It needs the support of a simple majority of voters in this election to become law. Several other states are also exploringDenver Public School staff Azucena Esquda, right, lends a hand as people pick up lunches at the Montbello Campus in Denver on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Denver Public Schools was handing out food to students and families in need at the campus as schools were closed amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Sharp said the public schools in Grand Junction fed about 4,000 more students daily under the federal program — a 40% increase over pre-pandemic levels. Since it expired this year, they’ve lost much of that increase. He’s also heard anecdotes of increased disruption and behavioral issues from principals with hungry children.

Colorado school districts still feed students who can’t afford meals, but they may have the cost attached to their account as a school meal debt. That’s says everything about the Denver Post that has its legs in the air for the gang of six Jared sweet cheeks Polis and the destruction of my 5 generations of conservative Colorado history and the electoral vote. Shame on the biased Denver post.

What is the quality of the meals? I mean if dog shit were free I’d still not let kids eat it

If we can feed the kids from everywhere else around the world then we can darn sure feed our kids.

If anyone would bother to read the article, they'd know this program is funded by residents who earn $300K per year. Besides, thewtwilson, almost no one making 'hundreds of thousands per year' sends their kids to public school.

Free? The money comes from the printing press

This f’n bs is a scam that would weaken public schools even more than they already are.

Stupid idea. Free lunches for kids that can’t afford them? Yes. Free lunches for kids whose parents make hundreds of thousands per year? Waste of tax money.
