Just cut back on the vast majority of athletic programs, save money, and lower tuition. I like sports as much as the next, but college is primarily about an education. Colleges & universities have been 'majoring on the minors' for too long. Time to get back to the basics.
College sports which are televised are a selling point , albeit an expensive one, to the student body. I don’t doubt a good many students choose to attend a school with much weight on the Saturday afternoon football games and the post-game drinking bouts about campus.
If I were a female rowing crew with poor test score & denied USC I'd be pissed.
Eliminate the link between sports and colleges. College sports is either professional (football and basketball) or a drain on taxpayer and student money (all non-revenue sports).
Anyone who thinks any of this is new is just misguided. The fact is these folks wasted their money. That could have just made a huge donation and gotten their kids in. Colleges are the most corrupt organizations in America. Money has, does and always, always, has ruled the day.
