Several state university systems, including those in California, Hawaii, Massachusetts and New Jersey, are offering students free bus passes, gas cards and clothes

to eliminate achievement gaps. Last year, the large public university system received $15 million in recurring dollars from the state Legislature to meet students’ basic needs. The allocation was increased to $25 million this year.

“The place that I’m most concerned about is getting students to start again after taking a pause,” she said. “For students who have maintained enrollment, it’s making sure that their needs are being met financially so that they’re able to focus academically.” Other colleges relied on Covid relief funds to offer these services. These are states with the highest taxes well they better find ways to help their residents!

vankapro Anything but lowering the tuition.

In many states, college students get a special discount rate for bus passes.

Trimming superfluous administrators would do more for struggling students than these freebies.

Free?

Interesting...would be best to offer free tuition...

thus creating inflation of tuition prices
