UC San Diego, three years into a five-year Division I transition, is the new kid on the block in the Big West.

Friday’s 6-5 victory over the Dirtbags set the tone, with UCSD rallying for four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning against Long Beach State at Triton Ballpark.“We’re no strangers to the magical comeback,” UCSD senior second baseman Michael Fuhrman said. “We had no doubt.” UCSD’s pitching staff limited Long Beach State to just three hits both Saturday and Sunday, with RHPs Nic Gregson and Anthony Eyanson remaining unbeaten.

“Now, it’s just a matter of us putting our baseball out over and over and over again. When we just focus on our style, we’re going to be tough.”Weekend results:The Toreros received strong outing in the opener from junior RHP James Sashin, who allowed one earned run in six innings with eight strikeouts and no walks.
